Valenzuela City Comic Con 2024: My Experience

Image
Last September 27-28, 2024, Valenzuela City hosted its very first comic convention at the Valenzuela City Academic Center for Excellence (ValACE) in Brgy. Malinta. I had the opportunity to attend on the second day, September 28, and it was an eventful experience worth sharing. As part of SKP, I helped document the workshop through photos and videos and was also a judge for the comic strip competition. The best entries won Funko Pops, courtesy of Filbars, one of the event’s sponsors. The event was a fantastic opportunity for Valenzuela City to host its first comic convention. Another Parekoys Comics at National University Komiks Talk

Image
On May 22nd, 2024, I will once again be conducting a comics strip workshop at National University Manila. Alongside Mr. Damian Velasquez III, we will discuss the history of komiks in the Philippines and provide guidance on creating their own comics. I would like to extend my gratitude to the National University Central Student Government for inviting us to participate in the Sining ng Alimbukad event. I hope that some of the Nationalians will be inspired to create and produce their own comics in the future.

Mukatman's Comms Week Comics Talk at National University Manila

Image
I was invited to conduct a comic strip-making workshop for the students of the National University Manila, College of Education, Arts, and Sciences on February 2, 2023. I would like to express my gratitude to the Comm Pendium for making this event possible. I hope the students learned something, and that this experience inspires some of them to create their own comics. Accompanying me to speak with the students was Mr. Ian Velasquez, the grandnephew of the Father of Philippine Comics. He discussed the brief history of comics in the Philippines and the legacy of Mr. Tony Velasquez's characters in Philippine culture.
