Looking Back at My Spider-Man Fan Arts Over the Years

Image
We watched Spider-Man: Brand New Day last Sunday, and someone asked me if I'd ever drawn Spider-Man before. I said, "Only a few, mostly practice sketches." So I dug through my old files and found these drawings. These were created between 2007 and 2011 . They're all traditional sketches, except for one that I drew in MS Paint . I hadn't really gotten into digital art back then, so most of my work was still done with pen and paper. It's always fun looking back at old drawings and seeing how much I've grown as an artist over the years.

Working on My Project after the Pandemic

Image
I’m currently revisiting a project that has been on hold for several years. It was originally planned for release before the pandemic, but like many things at that time, it had to be postponed. Now I am slowly returning to it and working through my backlog of unfinished ideas and creative work. Finishing long-delayed projects can be challenging, but it is also very rewarding. For me, creating is not only about producing work for others but also about personal fulfillment. Completing these projects reminds me why I started making art in the first place.

I Design a Pencil Cartoon Mascot for our Group

Image
As a member of SKP, Samahang Kartunista ng Pilipinas , I was invited to create a mascot concept for the organization. The idea was rooted in how members often call each other ka-lapis, a term that reflects both camaraderie and our shared craft. Since the SKP logo already features a pencil motif, it felt natural to build the mascot around a pencil-inspired design. This concept aims to represent creativity, unity, and the identity of Filipino cartoonists.

Joining the 2016 Trend: Sharing My Painting from that Era

Image
oining the 2016 trend. I am sharing a painting I created back in 2016. At the time, a cartoony painting style was not yet very popular. Now, I often see cartoon-style paintings hanging in local galleries. This is an acrylic painting and is available for sale. If you are interested, feel free to DM me.

Art Vs Artist 2025 ni Mel Casipit

Image
Art vs Artist 2025. 'Di ako masyado nagawa ng mga artworks this year, kupara noong mga nakaraang taon. Medyo busy kasi sa paparating na baby at life. Pero noong binalikan ko mga ginawa ko last year(2025), napansin kong madami-dami akong nagawang short comics ilan para Komiket, Komikon at Istorya Studios. Nakapagpinta rin ako ng mga small paintings. Abangan niyo na lang mga art ko ngayong 2026. Dadamihan ko pa siguro ang komiks at paintings.

Finally Receved my ISBN for my Newest Book: Galila!

Image
This moment is truly special for me — I’ve just received confirmation for my first-ever ISBN application as an author. I’ve been self-publishing zines and comics since high school, but this marks a new milestone after becoming an NBDB-registered author. My book Galila is a collection of my short comics created over the years. From writing and drawing to layout, publishing, and marketing, I handled everything myself. It’s been a long creative journey, and seeing it officially recognized feels incredibly rewardin

How I Draw in 2003 - My Art Journey

Image
These drawings from 2003 were recently sent to me by friends who still own them. Honestly, I created so much art back then that I don’t even remember drawing some of these pieces. At that time, most of my works were in anime style. It was only after I met Kuya Bing Cansino, a Marvel/DC Comics artist, that I started studying proper anatomy. Today, my art style has become very diverse. I don’t commit to just one style — I can work in many different ways. Sometimes I think about developing a single, recognizable style, but to me, that doesn’t sound fun at all. I enjoy exploring art, and if that means changing styles often, then so be it.

Check out Our New Book! I Illustrated it!

I’m thrilled to share a new project I had the honor of illustrating — Brothers From Canada: Role Models in Canadian Black History by Jeff Martin. This book highlights inspiring Black figures who played an important role in shaping Canada’s history and identity. As an illustrator, it was a meaningful experience to bring these stories to life visually and contribute to a work that celebrates diversity, resilience, and leadership. The book is now available . if you’d like to grab a copy and learn more about the individuals who helped shape Canada into what it is today.

Valenzuela City Comic Con 2024: My Experience

Image
Last September 27-28, 2024, Valenzuela City hosted its very first comic convention at the Valenzuela City Academic Center for Excellence (ValACE) in Brgy. Malinta. I had the opportunity to attend on the second day, September 28, and it was an eventful experience worth sharing. Though I arrived a bit late due to a hectic week, I got to the venue at around 3:00 PM and immediately headed to the 4th floor where the main event was being held. From there, I proceeded to the 5th floor to check out the Samahang Kartunista ng Pilipinas (SKP) workshop on Character Design and Comic Strip Making. As part of SKP, I helped document the workshop through photos and videos and was also a judge for the comic strip competition. The best entries won Funko Pops, courtesy of Filbars, one of the event’s sponsors. The event was a fantastic opportunity for Valenzuela City to host its first comic convention. It was refreshing to see such a well-organized event outside Metro Manila. The venue was surprisingly s...

Manila International Book Fair 2024 - My Experience

Image
Welcome to my blog! Today, I’m going to share my experience at the recently concluded Manila International Book Fair 2024, held at SMX Manila. I attended on Days 1, 2, and 4. Day 1 was Wednesday. I planned to go during the weekdays because, based on previous experiences, the crowd is lighter, making it easier to move around the venue . MIBF 2024 was spread across two floors: the first floor featured books, while the second floor focused on children’s books and the comics section. Unfortunately, I didn’t explore the first floor as I was primarily interested in the comics section. I arrived around 1 PM and had the opportunity to interview Ezjae Zemana, a comics creator also known as "Panitikanerd." I also caught up with friends who were present at the event. Among the exhibitors, I saw Komikon, Komiket, Avenida, Kawangis Publishing, Comic Odyssey, Sinegang, Manix, and more. On Day 2, I interviewed Sampay, and we discussed his creative process and upcoming projects. I also con...
